What you need to know

  • Microsoft is announcing new Intelligent Speaker devices at Ignite.
  • These speakers use Microsoft Teams and AI to detect who is talking.
  • It can also transcribe meetings for particpants to look back at if necessary.

Microsoft is expanding its Teams portfolio by introducing new "Intelligent Speaker" peripherals that are designed to work in meeting rooms and determine who in the room is talking when connected to a Teams meeting.

These new speakers can monitor up to 10 different people in one meeting room, and correctly identify and transcribe their conversations so that meeting participants not in the room can follow along. The speakers include a 7-array microphone that uses AI to identify and differentiate between the different voices, while matching specific voices to people's profiles in Teams.

Users can customize the level of privacy and security too, turning off the ability to transcribe or match transcriptions to specific people if necessary. These new Intelligent Speakers and associated functionality will be going into preview later this year.

In the meantime, what are your thoughts on these new Intelligent Speakers for Microsoft Teams? Let us know in the comments.
